Realm of Hepumia Demo

Arcade games don’t need a lot of clever mechanics to gather a decent crowd, because one gimmick will suffice most of the time. However, it’s all about replayability and content, because it gets boring to play the same thing over and over again without diversity. Hence, a decent number of levels is required to maintain the illusion longer.

Realm of Hepumia is a casual arcade game designed to be enjoyed by everyone, with simple gameplay mechanics, basic graphics, and easy controls. There’s not a lot you have to do, other than move around, collect various items, and try to avoid the enemies that hunt you down. In the end, it’s all about the high score and whether you have what it takes to survive the challenge.

There’s even a story unfolding in the background, although it’s very thin and of no consequence to the actual gameplay. Hence, you play the role of an elf who must reclaim the gold of his people from the monsters that stole it. However, the elf is also capable of wielding a bit of magic, including thunderbolts and the usual fireballs that can take multiple enemies out at once.

Unfortunately, it’s not all flowers and rainbows, because the game sports a few glaring gameplay mistakes and annoyances that might make it difficult for you to enjoy it. Hence, the camera is usually placed in a weird angles, and it makes navigation more difficult than it should be, mainly because of the controls. The levels quickly get boring and there’s not much point in re-doing them multiple times.

However, since the game encourages you to constantly try to beat your times and compete with other people, you are left wondering why there are so few stages to begin with. The AI is also pretty basic and it takes a lot of the challenge out of the gameplay. Thankfully, at least the younger audience is going to be distracted by all the nice colors floating around, so that’s a plus.

All things considered, Realm of Hepumia is far from a successful title, mainly due to the fact that it doesn’t sport enough variety to sustain multiple playthroughs. Hence, unless you are looking for something light to lose an afternoon with, you’d be much better off trying something else.
