Quantum Conundrum is a puzzle game developed by Airtight Games and published by Square Enix.
When developers say that they have made a puzzle game, people usually assume that it’s something light and easy to play, but that’s not always the case. From time to time, bigger studios also make games that can be categorized as puzzles, and they have really high productions value.
You might wonder what other puzzle games made by famous studios are out there. There are plenty of them, with the Portal series being the most prominent. It’s not a genre that sells a lot of copies, so it’s not tackled by big studios, but it happened from time to time and players are the ones who have to gain.
The first thing that you’re certainly going to notice is the presence of the John de Lancie, the famous actor mostly known for portraying Q in the Start Trek series. His narration and involvement in the games simply makes everything better.
Quantum Conundrum follows a very simple and interesting storyline. The player takes on the role of a young boy who goes to live with his uncle, Professor Fitz Quadwrangle. The professor also happens to be an inventor, and he has the weirdest house. He gets himself lost into another dimension, and it’s your job to get him back.
The players will be able to manipulate various energies to make object lighter or heavier, to influence gravity and the speed of time. The game is mainly divided into rooms that need to solve in order to progress further into the story.
The gameplay might be straightforward. Push the switch and figure out what’s doing what, but some of the scenarios are quite difficult, and it’s not an easy game.
Quantum Conundrum is built on the Unreal Engine, which means that the game is very well optimized and runs without any issues even on low-end hardware.
Overall, Quantum Conundrum is really fun to play, and it’s easy to see that they took a lot of inspiration from Portal, which in this case can only be a good thing.
