Putt-Putt: Travels Through Time Demo
Children are very quick to learn new concepts, but they are not always willing to so when it comes to anything else than the entire Pokemon codex. However, they can be easily attracted using a variety of other techniques, such the case of video games that aim to teach them various concepts using entertaining mechanics and colorful characters.
Travel through time and recover lost objects
Putt-Putt: Travels Through Time is a very entertaining point-and-click adventure game that tells the tale of a pink car that has opened a portal through time and lost a few things in it by mistake, such as its homework, a dog and even a friend. Over the course of the story, the players need to go through all the levels and find the missing objects, passing a variety of tests along the way.
In order to stimulate critical thinking and push the children to use their logic and imagination when it comes to solving problems, every level has a few puzzles that must be solved in order to more on further into the game. While these may not be in any way difficult for an adult, it is vital for the little ones to be able to reason their way out of a riddle, or put together a few clues in order to fix a certain problem.
Fix bridges and travel between locations
One example of a puzzle is a bridge that's missing a piece and cannot be crossed until the rock is returned into its original place. The clue is that a rectangular piece is required in order for the bridge to be completed, which should teach the children a thing or two about geometry as well. However, there are many other such challenges along the way, although the gameplay is open enough to allow free exploration, to an extent.
As far as the technical capabilities of the game are concerned, the cartoony aspect should work wonders on the younger audience, especially since the color palette is about as wide as it can be. Moreover, the characters themselves are nicely animated and very expressive, although they mostly show this during cutscenes and dialogue sequences.
An educational game with plenty of appeal
In case you cannot convince your children to start learning about the world around them, Putt-Putt: Travels Through Time can be a good alternative and a good teacher. In addition, it does so in a friendly manner and the kids should more than excited to give the game a try.
