Project A.P.E.
Be an augmented ape, grab one or more guns and head on into the arena. And also, fight to the death. #First person shooter #Ape FPS #Arena shooter #FPS #Ape #Shooter
There was a time when people were throwing metaphorical axes at companies who used animals for product testing. However, we’ve evolved over the last years; we’re more cynical now, and that issue tends to not matter anymore. Of course, we mean in the digital world.
Project A.P.E. is a first-person shooter in which you are an ape that has been augmented with robot parts and left in an arena with other similar primates to test new weapons. Which fire real ammo. Not bananas.
Project A.P.E. is a super fast-paced shooter that’s built using Unreal Engine 4 (ergo good graphics) and throws your ape self into the arena to fight for your life. And bananas, hopefully.
It’s made purely for multiplayer gameplay, so you either play it with friends or don’t play at all. There are no bots to add which makes it a bit of a downer since the game looks and plays really good. However, if you manage to find one or more biped buddies, Project A.P.E. is fun to play, as far as basic FPS games go.
In terms of design and effects, Project A.P.E. is very good. The guns look interesting and having the overheat animation adds some character. It’s almost like Unreal Tournament for apes.
Project A.P.E. is a game that was designed and put together by a group of 16 students over a period of 10 weeks, so you should know that it’s an incomplete game (in a way). It features only a handful of weapons and just one arena to fight in.
Weapons don’t have a secondary fire, and there are a few things that could benefit the gameplay. Apart from shooting with the same weapons over and over again, there isn’t anything else to do. It would be nice to at least have more maps.
Should development to Project A.P.E. continue, it would have a good chance of becoming something good. It just needs that one single piece of gameplay that would set it apart.
We haven’t seen one single banana in Project A.P.E. Apes shouldn’t be allowed to kill other apes but if they don’t have a choice, then at least they should get a banana for each frag.
