Princess.Loot.Pixel.Again (PLPA)

Princess.Loot.Pixel.Again, is such a strange name for a game so we’ll stick to calling it by its alternate name, PLPA. It’s a 2D platformer that infuses into its gameplay the classic mechanics as well as some from the RPG and roguelike genres.

At a first glance, PLPA might not seem like much. It features the kind of graphics you can see in a lot of 2D indie games; the animations aren’t all that fantastic and as a whole, it feels a bit too indie. However, this is the kind of game that grows on you; it becomes fun as you play it.

The game is about a brave young man who sets off to free and rescue a king who was kidnapped by a dragon. To make things a bit worse, that happened just as he is sentenced to death by the king himself for having the guts to ask for the princess's hand in marriage. And so, our little hero wanders into the unknown to defeat the dragon.

The gameplay to PLPA is simple. Your character can swing his weapon, jump and double jump, and there are some special skills or items that can be used. One of the things that make PLPA enjoyable is its roguelike feel. You don’t die easily but when you do, you have to start all over again and to complicate things a bit, the castle you’re in changes its structure each time you begin.

Another nice aspect of the game is the way you itemize your hero. There are weapons, armors, shields, helms, and unidentified potions that you can find in mysterious chests. As with the rest, what you get is always different and at times you get a bomb that detonates next to you.

To wrap it up, PLPA is a very nice game to have if you’re into games that have a classic look and simple but enjoyable mechanics.
