Pixel: ru² is a 2D platformer like no other that will definitely make players buy a new keyboard after they destroyed the previous one.

There are various levels of difficulty for 2D platformers. Some are dead-easy and other are impossible to complete. Then there is everything in between those two. But what happens when you have a game that seems really easy, but it’s actually really difficult, like Pixel: ru²? Where do you place such a game that blends simple platforming action with a puzzle?

In the case of Pixel: ru², we need to put this game into its own category, even if it looks like it would belong in other genres. The developers of the game from C63 Industries have managed to put something together that draws inspiration from old titles, but still manages to feel fresh and modern.

The first thing that you will notice right out the game is that Pixel: ru² is really difficult and that’s not just a tagline. It’s the kind of game that you will love and hate at the same time, which is usually a good sign.

The players get to control a simple square shape that can jump and shoot. It’s not terribly complicated, but it doesn’t obey the gravity rules that you’re expecting. With the in mind, players will need to adjust the way they think about simple jumps.

To make matters even more complicated, a powerful physics engine is governing everything, so there won’t be any mistakes. The one constant that is present throughout the game is the fact that you’re going to die a lot.

When you hit some areas that kill, you will return to the start of the level or at checkpoints. Be prepared because you’re going to do thing a lot. The goal of the game is not only to reach the end of the level, which can be quite complicated, but also so get a good score.

The developers also put in a nice touch at the end of each level, where players are going to find out something interesting from the history of technology.
