You finally get home and go to your brother’s room to give him his birthday present but as you open the door, a flash of light appears, the roof collapses and a giant claw takes him away in a heartbeat. With no time to think about what just happened, you rush to save your little brother, unaware of the awesome and frightening things that are about to happen.
When you say retro platformer you generally refer to games that blast 8bit graphics and very simple mechanics. Pitiri 1977 creates a genuine and different kind of retro setup without compromising graphics, gameplay or atmosphere.
Pitiri 1977 draws its visual inspiration from the 70s, a time when technology took a tremendous leap forward and sci-fi in general simply took off. Throughout the game you will encounter plenty of visual elements that are drawn from 1977, from computers to designer chairs that float around in space, every little thing counts and really manages to create a 70s atmosphere, and a very comfortable one at that.
As the story progresses, you meet a few very friendly and well mannered robots that pitch in to help in your noble quest and one of them even enlightens you on what kind of monster kidnapped your brother. It seems that you will be facing the dreaded spaceflees who at one point almost eradicated the robot population.
Since your enemy actually sounds like something that 70s Sci-Fi would think of, passed the point where it starts to make less sense, things get interesting. You find out that you have a few superpowers which really come in handy and that some robots would prefer to chill in their room and listen to music rather than help you find your little brother.
The superpowers feature is more than welcome since it allows the game to use plenty of interactive mechanics. Moreover, it’s going to be fun and challenging quickly switch between abilities to overcome different obstacles and difficult situations.
To sum things up, Pitiri 1977 seems like a really promising adventure platformer. It looks really good, controls are simple and gameplay is anything but tedious. Moreover, it has a certain dose of personality which will surely grow once you really get into the story.
