Orcs Must Die! is a tower defense game that lets the player help with the strategy from a third person perspective.

Orcs Must Die! is developed and published by Robot Entertainment, and they are the only ones that really made this genre work. They have been doing other similar games since the release of Orcs Must Die! but this is how it all started and even if it’s an older title, it still hasn’t been beaten until now.

Tower defense games have a pretty clear concept. The player builds defenses and waits for the waves of attackers. Defenses can be upgraded, and most of the time the resources are stretched pretty thin. The excitement is provided by the lack of money needed to build all that you want.

Concept and gameplay

In Orcs Must Die! there is a new element available. The entire game is in 3D, and the player can roam around the map placing traps and other defenses, but when the action starts, he can actually help around. He can hit enemies, which mean that it’s like walking turret, to put it bluntly.

Most of the time are not enough to just have some clever gameplay mechanics; you also need to have something else that can contribute, like beautiful graphics or some quirky artwork. The engine used in this game works like a charm, but the design is really special and stands out.

The traps are well built and varied, so you will never feel that you’re playing the same level over and over again, and the main character is really good at fighting orcs on its own with this two weapons. In fact, for the first levels, you will do as much damage to the orc hoard as the traps, but that changes as the game progresses.

The demo level only features a few maps, but the player will get a chance impale and to trap quite a few orcs. The game is worth every penny, and it should appeal to both players who like third person actions game, as well to the fans of tower defense titles.
