Staying healthy is a tricky thing nowadays, because somehow it’s easier and cheaper to buy heavily processed food than to eat something right out of the garden. Obviously, this is because we probably wouldn’t be able to sustain seven billion people with all-natural fruits and vegetables, not to mention the fact that we must also provide everyone with an exhaustive variety of products in supermarkets around the world.
Orange Adventure is a funny and colorful platformer that aims to emulate old-school games, which means that your primary concern is to keep running and collecting various things. The game is not as complex or as challenging as the classics, especially not when it comes to gameplay, but at least it has good intentions. On top of that, it also features responsive controls and smooth graphics.
There’s not much of a story going on in the background, but then again it’s not that important, because you’ll be busier trying to stay alive. As such, besides spikes and pits that want you dead, you also have to watch out for enemies that patrol the levels. Some of them are pretty harmless as long as you keep your distance, but others can shoot things at you from a distance.
The levels are pretty big and open to exploration, at least in some cases. You can climb up or down in search of various fruits, as well as special items that are more hidden. The action is still pretty linear, but at least you can always waste a bit more time by trying to explore the entire level. The environments change on a regular basis, depending on the stage you are playing.
Speaking of which, the graphics quality is above decent, especially when it comes to level design and the quality of the artwork. The full-HD pictures are crystal clear, and so are the animations for the main characters and the enemies. On top of that, the controls are on point as well, which is great news for a platformer that theoretically rewards quick reflexes and good coordination.
In the end, Orange Adventure is not original in any way, but at least it does everything by the book when it comes to gameplay. It also has a nice collection of levels that keep you on edge at all times, while also providing you with new landscapes to enjoy.
