Physics-driven puzzle games are extremely popular with the crowds, mostly because they feel like something you could do in real life, if real life were a bit more magical. Hence, they don’t even need to be that complicated, as long as a bit of concentration and good coordination are required in order to pass the levels and get further into the game.

Obulis is one of these apparently simple puzzle games that features a lot more depth and quite the challenge once you get closer to it. In essence, the principle is quite simple and straightforward: there are a number of colored balls that need to be put in special containers, and you can only use the power of gravity and momentum to do so.

Hence, the balls are usually hanging in the air from chains, which can be broken with a simple click. Then, depending on what the ball hits on its way down, it can either go into its bowl, or trigger another ball’s journey instead. As you manage to beat the levels, the difficulty level increases and the stages become that much more frustrating, since the number of required moves increases as well.

Part of the gameplay is based on your ability to coordinate your actions in order to trigger the right impulses at the right time. Hence, you need to stay sharp and keep things going according to plan, by cutting chains and using the force of gravity in your favor. In case you ever get stuck, experimenting always helps, because there is usually more than one way to complete the levels.

As far as the technical aspect is concerned, the game does not excel in any regard, but it looks decent. The graphics are in 2D and they do not feature anything out of the ordinary, but they are not an eyesore either. Pleasant tunes play in the background while you are tinkering with a solution, but since you might end up spending a lot of time at some of the puzzles, the music gets pretty repetitive after a while.

In the end, Obulis’ greatest strength is the fact that it is easy to pick up and learn, even if the actual puzzles can give you a lot of headaches. Hence, if you find yourself in need of a challenge and you do not mind accelerating the balding process, this may very well be a good choice.
