Sometimes the simplest idea is enough to help you have fun, especially when it comes to video games. Hence, even if huge and complex games like World of Warcraft may attract millions of players, tiny platformers or short visual novels can have a powerful impact on gamers as well. In fact, it all depends on how open you are to new ideas.
ORBIZ is an interesting top-down shooter with local co-op and colorful graphics, which challenges you to survive zombie attacks while trying to complete certain missions on a globe-shaped map. It’s a pretty basic formula when you think about it, but that doesn’t make it any less fun, especially if you manage to gather a few friends and enjoy it on the same computer with multiple controllers.
Each mission you undertake has a couple of objectives that must be completed, such as destroying the spawners, or killing a certain number of zombies. None of the objectives are difficult or confusing, but you might still run into some trouble if you are not prepared to deal with large numbers of enemies at the same time, which is why teamwork is so important.
As mentioned before, the action takes place on small planets that can be circled in a matter of seconds if you wanted to, which makes everything appear a lot more engaging for some reason. Thankfully, the controls are very intuitive as well, in the sense that you can quickly pick up the basic principles and apply them in order to survive. Granted, it’s much easier to do so with a controller than it is with a keyboard.
The graphics are not exactly state-of-the-art, but the overall style and presentation make for a very interesting look, which is all that matters. The particle effects are quite nice, not to mention the silly animations when it comes to zombies and your characters. It’s a lot more fun in multiplayer, but you can have a good time on your own as well if you just want to relax for a while.
In the end, ORBIZ can easily keep you busy for a few hours if you have the patience required to complete the missions, and it’s not that difficult if you work together with your teammates. On top of that, more levels and features are planned for future versions, and we can only hope that the developers keep working on it.
