Nova Blitz
A real-time trading card game with very good design, quick matches and a promising future. #Trading card game #Card duel #Real time TCG #TCG #Card #Duel
Nova Blitz is a trading card game that’s been in the works for some time now and for a good reason. Unlike most TCG that are out now, in completed or testing phases, Nova Blitz implements a ‘less is more’ type of approach when it comes to the gameplay and, so far, to the rest of its content.
Right now, Nova Blitz is in development with plenty of stuff to work on, which is more or less visible, it depends on how many TCG games you’ve come across. However, its core gameplay is well-polished, and it’s quite refreshing to see.
Having battles that end after roughly five minutes, or even less, is a terrific thing not only because you don’t waste time, you also avoid the boredom that comes waiting for the opponent to make his or her move. This happens for two reasons. One, player move times are timed to a few seconds and secondly, Nova Blitz makes use of simultaneous combat planning.
The latter means that while you take turns to pick and play cards, your actions to attack or defend (counter) are done simultaneously between the both of you. Obviously, each move is hidden from the opponent, and that means that you not only have to focus on your offensive/defensive moves, but you also have to quickly visualise what your opponent is up to. It’s not the first game to feature this but in a TCG, it’s a more than welcome mechanic. It’s probably one of the few ways in which you can make and maintain a card game’s dynamic nature and gameplay flow.
Looking back at other TCG that I’ve come across, Nova Blitz is probably the easiest one to pick up. For the trading card game newcomers, or those who wish to genre migrate, that will be a big plus, especially since everything about the design (so far) is intuitive.
Building decks or customizing pre-existing ones is a cinch, and after a few battles, you’ll start to match cards a bit better, perfecting your deck as you go. The duels are as intense as they are quick and as you play, the leveling system kicks in to unlock prizes.
Nova Blitz lacks some much-needed polishing in the looks department, and some features are inbound. The team behind the game have been around for a long time, and most of them have worked on big titles. If you’re looking to find out more about Nova Blitz, which we recommend, feel free to stop by the Nova Blitz Kickstarter page.
