Nomad Fleet Demo

Nomad Fleet is a space strategy game that challenges the players to look out for the remains of the human fleet as they try to escape from this galaxy.

The idea behind Nomad Fleet might seem like a fresh one, but it’s not. In fact, just a few years ago we had a game named FTL: Faster Than Light that did the same thing, but with a different story and in only two dimensions. It’s been while since then, and the developers from Autarca are now trying to replicate the same kind of gameplay, but in a 3D environment and with a little bit more depth.

There’s nothing wrong with taking a recipe for a great game and enhancing it, especially when the end result is something better or different from what the original developers have made. The truth is that Nomad Fleet shares some of its gameplay concepts with FTL: Faster Than Light, but it’s different enough to stand on its own and not to be considered a clone of some sorts.

Following a period of expansion of humanity into deep space, a reconnaissance team finds an artificial planetoid was that actually a beacon. An ancient race is awakened, and they start to destroy all traces of humanity. A fleet of survivors is put together, and it’s your job to guide them to a hypergate that might lead them outside of the galaxy and out of the reach of the aliens.

Players get control of a mothership that can do research and build fighter, bombers, and a number of other crafts. You can gather materials from almost all of systems that you visit, or you can find other lost vessels.

Most of the time you’re under pressure to jump as you get attacked almost immediately, even if the system seems deserted. The jump engines usually take about five minutes to charge, and you’ll get a chance to move to another system.

I have to mention the music, which is simply insane. It reminds me of the new Battlestar Galactica, with those amazing drum sounds. It’s one of the best parts of the game. Please keep in mind that it’s an Alpha demo, so it might differ significantly from the final version of the game.
