Nights Solitude
Explore new lands and fight difficult enemies in this really nice top-down atmospheric RPG. #2D RPG #Role playing game #Top down RPG #RPG #Top-down #Explore
Nights Solitude is a neat little 2D RPG that features a really nice atmosphere. It puts pixel art graphics to good value and pushes forward an intuitive and laydback gameplay that doesn’t really go easy on you. At first it might not seem like it but there’s quite a lot to this indie title.
Nights Solitude uses simple UI design and graphics to match and it does so to its advantage. Not having full vision around you, like in most RPG/Hack’n’Slash games, is a good thing because it really helps with the atmosphere of the game. Exploration actually feels like exploration and not knowing what can jump out from between the trees or behind the giant mushrooms is nice.
Combat is also made to be simple but it’s also very practical. Your character swings the sword in the direction you point to and it basically comes down to who depletes who’s lifepoints faster. Fighting in Nights Solitude is a bit anticlimactic but strangely enough it’s not tedious either. It just works really well with how everything else is implemented.
Nights Solitude features a really distinct atmosphere, one that keeps you interested in exploring more and more, it makes you curious as to what lies into the darkness.
There’s no denying that Nights Solitude starts off kind of slow but as you make your way through the fantasy world, things get better. You find new enemies, interesting areas, graves to uncover, teleporters, mercenaries and a good deal of other stuff that adds value to the game.
There’s a leveling system that makes sense, weapons can be upgraded, enemies get tougher as you find your way to new regions and more, all of which add up and give Nights Solitude a considerable amount of depth.
Generally having less than other similar games comes as a setback but in this case, the way it looks and how it works are big advantages. Attention and thought have been given where they were needed and since it’s still in early stages of development, you can certainly expect Nights Solitude to get way better.
