Railroads may seem a bit obsolete nowadays, but the truth is that they are still very useful when it comes to transporting goods from one place to the other. Hence, they are here to stay for a while longer, even if better and better technologies are constantly raising the bar in the field. On the other hand, it’s pretty costly to take care of an entire railroad system as well.

Next Stop 2 is a time management game in which your primary purpose is to build a city and do it as quickly as possible. However, the gameplay is that from a classic time management game, which means that you have to run around gathering resources and repairing things in order to accomplish a variety of objectives. Hence, every fan of the genre should feel right at home from the first few minutes of gameplay.

To begin with, it’s worth noting that you are in charge of an entire city, which must be built brick-by-brick until it shows a profit to the bank that loaned you the money to do it. Hence, the city has multiple buildings, such as a train station, a bank and roads, all of which have multiple upgrade levels until they are completed. You get two upgrades for each completed stage, and you are free to use them as you see fit.

As mentioned before, your task is to gather resources, such as money and lumber, which are then used to repair structures or upgrade existing facilities. Although you start with only one worker, you can upgrade the main building and have multiple workers on the map at the same time. The stage ends when you manage to accomplish every objective, or when the time runs out if you are not playing in the relaxed mode.

Everything else is quite nicely designed, especially when it comes to the maps and the buildings that are part of them. Hence, you can easily imagine yourself back in simpler times. Granted, the top-down view is fixed and you cannot rotate the camera or zoom in, but it shouldn’t be a big problem. The soundtrack goes very well with everything else, even if the songs get repetitive after a while.

Although Next Stop 2 can be a tad annoying sometimes due to the similar nature of the missions, you can still have a lot of fun with it. Moreover, there are enough stages to keep you occupied for a while.
