My Last Friday Demo
A very good looking indie first person horror game that steers clear of the generic approach to the genre. #First person horror #Indie horror #Escape house #Horror #FPH #Escape
Finally, an indie horror game that lives up to some expectations in terms of visuals and presentation departments. It’s far from perfect but it’s among the best looking ones I’ve come across in a long time.
The first thing I liked about My Last Friday were the graphics. Without a doubt, Unreal Engine 4 was put to very good use here. Your place of entrapment looks very good; the lighting is great, and even though there’s no eerie soundtrack to speak of, the mood to it is still good.
Another big plus to My Last Friday is that you won’t be needing a flashlight. At last, one indie horror game that doesn’t use the cheesy ring of light effect. All the rooms are nicely light but just the right way so that you still feel like something is hiding in the corners, waiting to jump and kill you. However, My Last Friday comes free of jumpscares; there aren’t any and good riddance.
In terms of how it looks and works, there is very little to object to My Last Friday. The story might be the only thing that could ruin things. At the start of the game, you find yourself trapped inside what looks to be like an abandoned house.
Making your way out of the bathroom you were held in, you start to feel like this place is more of a Saw-style torture and dismemberment facility, rather than just a simple house. That notion soon gets confirmed but without any details as to who is doing it, who’s the decapitated dude you find in the bathroom, and most importantly, what’s your role in all of it. Right now, even the story’s start is good, and it can go in a wide range of directions.
It’s hard to imagine an indie with these looks and polishing to fail at delivering a great horror experience. However, if it doesn’t take care of the audio, as in add some quality to it and a soundtrack, My Last Friday could risk a lot.
