The MotoGP series has evolved quite a lot over the years, despite the fact that it switched developers half way through. Regardless of who was in charge of the games, however, the franchise managed to remain an influence in the racing genre and provide the fans with new content year after year, as well as improved mechanics.

MotoGP 08 decides to give you the choice of whether you want a more arcade style of gameplay, or you want the bikes to respond as realistically as possible to the road conditions and your controls. Thus, depending on your personal preferences, the game can be the perfect choice for almost anyone, as long as you share the passion for speed and motorbikes.

As usually, this latest installment features the 2008 season of the prestigious international championship, along with all the current players that are part of it. Beside that you get to compete with the biggest stars in the sport, you are also provided with the latest bike upgrades and specifications, so that you can match the performances seen in the real competition and really feel like you're part of the tournament.

This year, beside the usual new bike additions and the collection of brand new tracks, the game also features two new engine classes: the 125cc and the 250cc. Hence, you can now compete with slightly slower and easier to control bikes, before making the jump to the most powerful vehicles available. That way, you can also get familiar with the handling system, which can be quite difficult to master on the highest simulation settings.

Graphic-wise, the improvements are clearly visible, especially when it comes to the quality of the textures and the smooth geometry visible on the bikes. Moreover, the surrounding environment has been carefully detailed as well and you can definitely sense the improvement in the rag doll simulation engine, which takes over whenever you fail to control the bike properly.

MotoGP 08 may not reinvent itself or revolutionize the genre, but it does bring an acceptable amount of improvements over the previous installment, which should be more than enough to keep you satisfied, at least until the next title is released.
