Miaou Moon Demo

Cats sit at the very foundation of the whole Internet, because without them we would probably be in a very different place right now. Naturally, there are all sorts of video games featuring our furry friends as well, some of which managed to get quite a bit of recognition. On the other hand, it’s difficult to reach a cat saturation level, apparently, so there’s always room for one more picture or one more game.

Miaou Moon is an arcade platformer with interesting gameplay mechanics and a lot of levels to keep you busy over the course of the story. Unfortunately, the gameplay mechanics are not as airtight as they need to be in order to keep you engaged, but there’s still room for improvement and fixes in the future. On top of that, the theme is bound to capture the attention of the public, for obvious reasons.

In short, you play the role of a cat by the name of Captain Miaou. One day as the cat was piloting the ship full of food, a nasty accident causes everything to spill and orbit five of the nearby moons. Naturally, the goal is to get the food back in order to survive and keep Miaou alive through the whole ordeal. In fact, the goal is to feed Miaou in order to keep it fat and cozy inside the spacesuit.

As mentioned before, the gameplay is not exactly top notch, mostly because it’s counterintuitive and rather slow-paced for a platformer. Hence, you use up energy whenever you decide to move in the desired direction, and you are constantly trying to consume and replenish energy, which leaves you no time to concentrate on anything else or have any kind of fun.

Enemies are not a huge deal, but they can get you in trouble if you happen to touch them. Thankfully, Miaou can attack them using its claws, and there are multiple upgrade levels when it comes to the suit, armor and the claws. There are also five different environments to explore, each one of which features multiple levels and a steady difficulty curve to keep you on edge.

All things considered, Miaou Moon is not a very polished game at the moment, but there’s still time for that to change if the developer keeps working on it. Until then, you can support the project by voting for the game on Steam Greenlight.
