Memories of a Vagabond is a complex role-playing game that provides high replay value despite the limited game engine that has been used.
Memories of a Vagabond might not look like much at first glance, but it’s the kind of game that hides complex gameplay behind a simple facade. The rise if indie games is indisputable and many developers took advantage of the engines that became available in the past decade. They no longer had to work from scratch and could just pick up a game engine and adapt it to their needs.
This game is using RPG Maker, a powerful engine used for exactly this kind of titles. Unfortunately, when you make tools that everybody can use, you're going to get a lot of games of really poor quality. That’s the main reason many of the games built with RPG Maker feel really cheap. On the other hand, some developers have managed to put this application to good use and made some good stuff with it, including Memories of a Vagabond.
One of the things that developers love is permadeath. This mean that once you die you have to start over, from scratch. A similar idea has been adopted for Memories of a Vagabond, but with a twist. When you die, you get to meet, which can give you a new body and choose a new class.
The interesting part comes in later. Once you learn something, it doesn’t matter if you’re dead. You’re going to carry that technique with you, which means that you can combine various classes. On the other hand, dying is not really all that fund and set the players back quite a lot.
The graphics are nothing to admire, but since RPG Maker is being used, we can’t expect to see anything extraordinary. There is a good thing about it, though. Some players might enjoy the feeling of melancholy that will wash over them when they play this game since it looks like it’s some that they played a quarter of a century ago.
The demo version of the game is not very long, but it should be more than enough to help people decide if they want Memories of a Vagabond.
