Hidden object games tend to follow the same plots over and over again, with some variations. In most cases, the action feels repetitive, especially if you’re a frequent customer of this genre. However, now and again one title shines a bit when it comes to the story.

Maze: Subject 360 Collector's Edition pitches you as a woman who is trapped inside what seems to be a house, rigged as a maze. The maze is full of dangerous traps, weird events and sinister vibes. Moreover, it appears to be run by an evil and possibly sadistic little girl.

Despite the fact that Maze: Subject 360 starts like a 20th sequel for Saw, it goes its own way after a while. The approach to the story and the setting makes a lot more sense for a hidden object game, and on top of that, there are some good opportunities for jumpscares.

In a way, Maze: Subject 360 is part hidden object, part horror. The mystery of your predicament never slips your mind and as you advance into the story, the events just get weirder and weirder; and that’s something very good. With each room you enter and escape, the story takes interesting turns, your character gets flashbacks that help you piece together the events. However, even so, the plot stays clear of giving any clues as to how it’s going to end.

Alongside the well-crafted story and approach, Maze: Subject 360 even features an easter egg that makes reference to another hidden object game.

When it comes to the objects you find, and their order, Subject 360 still has that one great issue all games from this genre have, a lack of logic. At times, the objects you find, how you use them, as well as the order they are discovered in, they don’t make a lot of sense but in this case, since the story is good, it’s not that much of a bother.

Regarding the visual side of things, the game looks good, except for the animations, those are a bit wonky at times. Nonetheless, in most part, Subject 360 is a very good game, it surpasses most from its genre.
