Mayan Death Robots

Artillery games seem to have lost some ground in terms of popularity in the last few years but that is about to change. Introducing, Mayan Death Robots, the name kind of says it all.

In Mayan Death Robots you get to choose from several very cool looking giant robots and fight to the death. No fistfights though, it’s all about skilfully using ranged attacks that are unique to each robot in order to defeat the opponent.

Mayan Death Robots is played in a hotseat PvP manner and both you and a buddy have to simultaneously make quick decisions which should lead to eliminating the competition. The goal of each battle is to kill the enemy robot by destroying the ‘heart’ that grants it immortality. Yep, you can blast the enemy robot to pieces as much as you want but there’s a UFO that keeps bringing it back onto the battlefield.

The game provides a wide variety of maps that look great and offer players a few surprises now and again. Apart from battling each other, there will be times when you have to team up and try to defeat an actual Mayan god.

In Mayan Death Robots, the time you have to plan each attack is very short. Luckily you have just two weapon types to choose from and the optional movement and build commands to think about. But even so you will feel a bit pressured when it’s decision time, especially until you get used to the controls.

After you get familiar to the weapons and physics in the game, you’re ready to completely immerse yourself into the battle. Since each round takes just a couple of seconds, you will be using rockets, grenades, zaps, diggers and other alien war tech all the time which leaves you with absolutely no time to get bored.

Even though in early stages of development, looking at the game in ensemble, it’s truly charming. It provides great robot and world design, smooth animations and effects and it even focuses on a lot of minute details. For instance, the more damage your robot does to the opponent, the more little worshipers gather around it.
