Magbot Demo
One robot's silent journey through a space Arc that's falling apart, with thousands of humans on board. #Physics platformer #Exploration game #Physics puzzle #Exploration #Platformer #Physics
Taking some time away from games that are all about shooting bad guys, blowing stuff up or beating common sense into villains is recommended. On that note, here is Magbot, an indie physics platformer where there is none of the above, only exploration and puzzling interactions.
The protagonist is Magbot, a little robot who seems to have come back online very close to the darkest hour. The ARC, a gigantic spacecraft that is carrying thousands of human colonists to a new home, but 600 years into the trip, the craft malfunctions, putting everyone’s life at risk.
With a fried memory circuit, Magbot must make sense of what’s going on by exploring and taking advice and instructions from the one of the ship’s AI implementations. With its help, Magbot gradually regains all his abilities and might just save everyone.
Magbot is a silent narrative, as most protagonists, he doesn’t communicate back, he just gets the job done as best as you can.
The main attraction in Magbot, in the demo at least, is using your abilities to scan and navigate through the debris outside the ship. When it comes to the latter, you have your work cut out for you because the physics side of Magbot is pinpoint precise. It’s a real treat.
Having to use the Repulsor ability to navigate through zero gravity locations takes a toll on your reaction and reflexes but after you successfully manage to get from point A to B, the satisfaction is there. Magbot has a relaxed pace; it doesn’t rush you, despite the fact that the ship can explode at any time. Playing Magbot you have time to enjoy its details, the story and most of all, the gameplay.
It’s hard to not get attached to Magbot, I guess we have Wall-E to thank for that. He’s good at being the silent savior. Play the demo, and if you get a good vibe or feel the need to share some feedback, you can stop by the Magbot Kickstarter page.
