Madballs in Babo: Invasion is an arcade shooter that stands out with its quirky graphics and style.
Madballs in Babo: Invasion is not your average shooter and players will most likely enjoy the impressive art direction and the hectic gameplay. It’s not terribly complicated, and it’s easy to learn, so people won’t have a hard time learning how to play it. After all, this is a game about shooting things and surviving wave after wave of attack, so it does not really rocket science.
The idea and concept behind Madballs in Babo: Invasion are not new, and they have been used in numerous games before. What makes a real difference in this game are the nice graphics and the art direction, which are unique. It doesn’t have a powerful engine behind it, but with this kind of design the developers didn’t need to.
The player takes the role of Oculus Orbus, an eyeball that rolls around everywhere it needs to go. All the other enemies, with the exceptions of turrets, are also spheres, so when the screen gets crowded with all sorts of round characters, it’s quite a site.
The character is controlled with the WASD keys, and it doesn’t take long to master its movements. He con also sprint for short distances, but that ability needs to be charged. There are different weapons available, and they are usually designed for specific tasks.
For example, players will encounter enemies that are protected by a shield, so shooting it with a machine gun won’t do anything to them. They need to be destroyed with energy weapons. It’s also possible to change the avatar from time to time, but only for short periods, to bypass certain enemies or levels.
As I said before, the art direction is right on cue, and it’s no wonder that Madballs in Babo: Invasion is actually a really good game. Developers also offer co-op, multiplayer, various classes, secret levels, and much more. The demo only comes with a couple of levels, but they are more than enough to help anyone to decide if they want to get the full game.
