Levantera

If you want to bring the retro vibe and gameplay to today’s gaming audience, Levantera is a great example of how you should do it. Not only does it accurately emulate the old school NES look and sound, but it also manages to integrate gameplay features that recent titles have made appealing.

You won’t be able to shake how well-designed the game is, provided you have a soft spot for titles that have this approach to graphics. Levantera is one of the best I’ve seen in a long while. From character movement to attacking animations, everything feels retro. Not to mention that the audio is a perfect fit with the theme of the game.

As a platformer, Levantera’s gameplay revolves around jumping, sword fighting, collecting gold, smashing boxes, killing giant bugs and so on. It’s all simple in nature but like in the classics, it’s fairly tough to play and requires a good dose of focus and skill.

Levantera is best served by those who have lived the old-school days, or those who enjoy simple graphics and semi-casual gameplay. The game features crafting, an open-world, interesting NPCs, shops to visit, and nonlinear gameplay.

All of the above elaborate gameplay and with it, expand the entire experience making it more than a casual stroll back to the 80s. If you’re willing to explore, Levantera has plenty to offer.

To wrap it up, Levantera is a very nice game from all points of view. There isn’t a single thing you can’t refer to as being retro while still finding plenty of modern-day mechanics to offer a complete experience.
