LEVEL UP! Demo

LEVEL UP! is a game that combines multiple genres under one voxels made roof. It’s part platformer, part sidescroller and even implements a little dose of RPG into it, resulting in one dynamic and enjoyable game.

More and more games have started using physics, aesthetics and mechanics that use voxels and that’s not a bad thing when they are brought together to deliver something new and entertaining, like LEVEL UP!, for example.

At its core, LEVEL UP! is platformer / sidescroller. You have the freedom to move around the environment, left to right and vice-versa, you get to jump from one platform to another to grab health power-ups, shoot enemies and eventually make your way to the elevator that leads to the next level, which will always be on the right-side.

What’s great about this game is that levels and enemies are procedurally generated. You never know what you’re going to get and you have no idea where enemies are spawned and this should keep you on your toes while jumping around.

Since everything around you is made out of voxels, you’re free to create shortcuts through walls and floors if the default path is impossible to pass through due to constant enemy fire. Mind where you shoot though, levels contain explosive barrels which are very sensitive and if you’re not careful, you might blow yourself up.

LEVEL UP! is a fast-paced game with very sharp controls so if you die, it’s partly due to level difficulty but mostly your fault. Animations are wonderfully smooth and the enemies explode like a wonderful 3D pixel firework that’s satisfying to watch.

Every time you get to the next level, your hero gains one, along with a stat point that can be used to increase his firepower or health. And there are plenty more nice features to discover along the way.

To wrap things up, LEVEL UP! is a game to keep an eye on. There’s a lot more to add to it but it seems to be on the right track.
