Just Get Through Demo

Just Get Through, a game title that says it all about the plot. You’re a pixel being who inexplicably got trapped in an underground maze that has steep falls, vegetation and tons of traps. Your job is to make it out alive using any means possible.

By the looks of things, because that’s how you initially judge a game, Just Get Through will seem to be a piece of cake. After all, it’s about jumping from one place to another, avoiding two or three traps and getting to a portal.

That is in most part true because Just Get Through won’t mash your brain very often but make one little mistake and you’re done. And in most cases there’s very little you can do to keep going. There’s also permadeath so if you start all over again from level 1, you will face completely new levels so learning from previous mistakes might not be applicable.

A really nice thing about Just Get Through is that every piece of the world that surrounds you is destroyable. Your little pixel human can carry a limited number of TNT bombs which can be used to blow up dirt and traps. With them you can create new paths through the level or spare yourself an hour of trying to avoid a trap when you can just blast it to bits.

However, the TNT count doesn’t reset when you get to a new level so thinking things through is a must. To give you a fighting chance of escaping, once every two levels you are presented with three random upgrade options. You might get five extra lives, bombs, a higher jump and other stuff that might help you or turn out to be totally worthless. Oh, the beauty of games that use randomness, they can be frustrating but they are always challenging and fun.

On a closing note, Just Get Through uses a very nice approach on platforming. Wall jumps are kind of tricky to pull off and every hit wears off the wall, resulting in loss of grip and an exponential increase in difficulty.

It’s a game that uses a handful of mechanics but they’re put to great use. Just Get Through is something you have to play.
