Escape from a weird place and recover your memories in this retro point & click adventure game. #Point & click #Adventure game #Puzzle game #Horror #Puzzle #Adventure
As every hardcore horror fan will tell you, it’s important for a horror game to feature a compelling atmosphere, otherwise there’s no immersion. Jump scares are not enough to make such a game memorable, and there must be other elements at play as well. Survival gameplay mechanics are a good choice, but a bit of action is fine too, at least if it’s done in moderation.
JORRY is a retro point & click adventure game with horror and survival elements, in which you play the role of a woman as she wakes up with no memories in a creepy house. The goal of the game is to allow you to combine a multitude of skills in order to assure your survival. Hence, it’s not enough to solve puzzles, because you often have to run and hide in order to stay alive and continue the story.
The main character’s name is Claire, and she wakes up tied to a chair with no memory of how she got there. After a short phone call with a little girl, it turns out that the house is haunted by some kind of crazed maniac with a chainsaw. Thus, besides having to escape from the house in question, Claire must also keep hiding whenever the killer comes too close.
The gameplay is pretty straightforward if you are already familiar with point & click games, but there are some differences. You can engage in a variety of mini-games and puzzles along the way, some of which require wits, while others require good reflexes and a keen eye. Exploration is important too, because sometimes the items you need are pretty well-hidden around the house.
In terms of graphics, the developers went for a very retro and gritty style, which is actually a good choice in this situation. Granted, the whole thing can look a little bit messy sometimes, especially when you have to concentrate on smaller objects, but the artwork is definitely enjoyable. The soundtrack and the sound effects work together to create a unique atmosphere.
Even if JORRY is not quite there yet in terms of gameplay, there are enough good ideas here for the project to evolve into something worthwhile. Thus, it deserves a try if you are interested in a bit of horror.
