David Jones returns for a whole new set of inflitration missions around the world's most dangerous secret facilities

editor's review

As an ex-SAS agent, David Jones has a bag full of neat tricks when it comes to infiltration methods and various ways to eliminate opponents who stand in his way. Thanks to his long list of qualifications, he is called into action once more, this time in order to wreak havoc across a multitude of secret government facilities around the world, from China to Libya and Russia.

Use brand new weapons across various new locations

IGI 2: Covert Strike is the second installment of the very successful series, which brings you a whole new set of missions, weapons and situations to get yourself out of using any means necessary. In addition, familiar characters also return for the sake of continuity, leading the story forward and filling the missing pieces from the first part.

A wide variety of new weapons have made it into the sequel as well, all of which offer you new ways to strike your foes down. Furthermore, the new locations are carefully detailed and modeled to improve immersion, which is in great part thanks to the refined new engine that is capable of rendering much more detailed objects on the screen.

Use stealth tactics to take your enemies by surprise

As with the original title, the second game maintains the tradition and provides you with a heavily stealth-oriented gameplay as well, which restrains your ability to charge the foes head on. In essence, this is not feasible due to the limited number of bullets you are provided with at the beginning of every mission, but it is also because your hitpoints do not allow you to take more than a few bullets before succumbing to an untimely death.

The AI, on the other hand, has been greatly improved as well, being very responsive to its surroundings and using a wide variety of tactics to make your life a nightmare over the course of the missions. It does, however, sometimes abuse grenades, which can be rather annoying if you haven't taken the appropriate defensive measures beforehand.

A stealth-based shooter with new ideas

In the end, IGI 2: Covert Strike keeps the original formula intact, since most of the changes are purely aesthetic or content-related. In essence, this second installment is a more mature and refined version of the same product, which can provide you with countless hours of fun and entertainment.
