I Expect You to Die

Puzzle games are usually designed to be challenging, in the sense that you really have to put each clue together in order to figure out how to accomplish your tasks. However, it’s also about the journey itself, because most adventures have an effect on the characters, especially if they go through particularly tough times. On the other hand, it’s also nice to just solve a few riddles and not worry about thick plot lines.

I Expect You to Die is a cute puzzle game designed to be enjoyed with a VR headset, in which your task is to figure out a couple of riddles and even examine a bomb toward the end. However, it’s the experience that leaves you wanting for more, because the VR environment is extremely well-designed and detailed to make you feel like you are part of it.

The story puts you in the role of a secret agent who must survive a variety of dangerous situations, starting with the fact that he is in a car in an airplane. Not only that, but it also appears to be rigged to explode, so you must figure out how to gather as much information about the car as possible. In short, you get to play around with a supervillain’s ride.

You can interact with almost every object in the game, and that includes the main menu, which is actually a large office with a variety of stuff lying around. Whether it’s books, a lighter, car buttons or even the pedals, everything can be touched and dragged around. All of this is achieved using the mouse, although it can be a bit counterintuitive at first if it’s your first time using a VR headset.

Speaking of which, the graphics are not necessarily flashy, but everything is very detailed and nicely modeled. Each object looks like it belongs in the environment, so you do not have to deal with awkward textures or immovable objects serving no purpose whatsoever. The controls are very precise, so it should be easy to interact with the game world.

All things considered, I Expect You to Die is supposedly just an episode of a larger series, which should grow in time. However, even this first draft is incredibly well-designed, and it’s a real treat for VR headset owners.
