Hitogata Happa is the third and final game in the Gundemonium series, and it’s also the most difficult of the trilogy.
The Gundemonium Collection contains three classics, Gundemonium Recollection, GundeadliGne, and Hitogata Happa. This last one also seems to be most difficult, although that’s a relative term when we’re discussion games in the “bullet hell” genre.
This kind of games are supposed to be difficult, so it’s not exactly a surprise that Hitogata Happa is just as hard to play, if not more difficult, than the previous two installments. It’s also a little bit different from the previous two titles because the action is no longer unfolding from left to right. The developer decided to give it a more classic look, and now it’s a vertical shooter.
The game is developed by a studio named Platine Dispositif, which is actually a single developer. The titles that he’s put out so far in this trilogy have been increasingly more complex and difficult, with Hitogata Happa being the culmination.
Not only that the game is now a vertical shooter, but the developer also added some new features that make things fascinating. The biggest change seems to be the ability to queue characters before the launch of a new level. In this way, when you inevitably die, you can continue the level with another character.
Each character has a certain value and the user only has a limited number of resources for each new game, so you can’t just queue the best ones. This would mean fewer lives for you.
If you haven’t played games like this before the first question you’re going to ask yourself is this one: what’s happening on screen? The players are bombarded with so much information that it’s difficult to keep track.
The strategy is pretty simple, even if it doesn't seem obvious. You need to destroy the enemies as soon as possible. If you let them stay on the screen for too long, they are going to fill it with projectiles and after a certain point, it’s going to become impossible to avoid them.
Hitogata Happa is a fitting end to the series, but it mustn’t be played unless you are already a master of the previous two.
