Hektor
A good looking psychological horror game that uses shifting world segments to mess with your mind. #First person horror #FPS horror #Psychological horror #Horror #Psychological #FPS
What makes a horror game good is up for discussion from a number of aspects, but there are three core elements: atmosphere, visual style, and story. Hektor is a psychological horror game that uses exactly those three to create something that’s not amazing, but rather very good; it’s consistent for those who enjoy suspense and story-driven titles from this genre.
Hektor begins with you fallen to the floor, and after a lighter is handed to you by an unknown person, you get up and start wondering the surroundings. There isn’t an intro that explains at least some bits of what’s going on, of who you are or what that place is.
The game, to the delight of the fans, lets you piece up the story in your mind. What’s great about this is that each strange event, occurrence or clue, leaves you to create explanations on your own. And we all know that a lot of the time, what you envision or think about is scarier than what goes on. However, expect some good scares out of Hektor.
Some prefer gore and scary monsters while others live for the suspense and subtle scares. Hektor is the latter. It thrives on a wonderfully constructed atmosphere that becomes more unsettling as you find new information about where and who you are.
The narration is impeccable, and the audio effects are captivating if you have the right headphones or speakers.
What’s totally great about Hektor is the fact that the facility you are in constantly morphs around you and behind you. Your vision gets blurry if you run out sanity pills, but the rooms don’t change right in front of you. Entering a room and then wanting to get out might not always be possible because either the door is locked, it’s gone or there’s an entirely new room there. It’s all designed to mess with your mind, and it works.
To be honest, Hektor is great, but it’s not amazing, we’ve said that before. However, it definitely should be one of the titles you add to your wishlist and getting it when it’s a bit cheaper will be a good investment. It is a well-crafted game that can offer a memorable experience.
