Heileen 3: New Horizons Demo
The Heileen series has managed to reach the trilogy status, which is quite pleasing, especially for the fans that enjoyed it from the beginning. A lot of choices had to be made along the way, some of which shaped and twisted Heileen’s personality. However, a new episode is here and you have the chance to make it all alright again.
Travel the sea with a pirate at your side
Heileen 3: New Horizons picks up where the previous episode left off and you can follow Heileen’s adventure like it never stopped. Hence, she now joins Morgan the pirate in an attempt to search for her missing friends, scouring the sea in all directions and checking every island for clues. Some characters make a comeback as well, although you also get to meet new ones.
Basically, the same gameplay mechanics apply this time around as well, because this is still a visual novel and there’s not much action going around, except for the dialogue. Every now and again, you must make a choice and go with one option or the other, which affects the course of the story. This provides you with the opportunity to replay the game multiple times, in order to see all the possible outcomes.
Shape Heileen’s personality with your choices
The game also employs a Virtues/Sins system, which keeps track of your choices from a different perspective. Hence, if you go for the evil options, Heileen’s personality changes and so does the story overall. Naturally, do not expect too much depth when it comes to the plot, because it is fairly linear and you can only affect a limited number of things along the way.
As far as the technical aspects are concerned, the graphics are hand drawn as usual, with beautiful artwork and plenty of nice landscapes for you to admire. Nice music helps with the atmosphere as well, although it does get a tad repetitive after a while, especially if you pay too much attention to it. Fortunately, the story can be fascinating enough to take your mind off everything else.
A successful sequel and a nice trilogy overall
Heileen 3: New Horizons may not have the most memorable story, but it is cute enough to keep you entertained for the entire duration of the game. In addition, the trilogy as a whole can provide you with even more fun, as long as you are ready to sacrifice a few hours from your spare time.
