As the Harry Potter saga reached its climax, the book and the movie had to be split into two parts, in order to properly explain all the events leading to the grand finale. Naturally, the same thing happened with the video game as well, which means that you have to play through both titles in order to experience the story until the end.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, as the name implies, presents the events from the second Deathly Hallows book and gives you the opportunity to personally take part in Harry's attempt to stop the Horcruxes and Lord Voldemort himself. His two closes friends, Hermione and Ron are also there to help him and you get to control them as well during the game.
The story revolves around killing the Horcruxes and saving Hogwarts from being destroyed, which means that most of the action takes place around the school itself. Moreover, a lot of the other characters are involved in the events as well, including Molly Weasley, Professor McGonagall and many others. Beside Horcruxes, there are also many human opponents that must be defeated, although they are not as difficult to fight.
Obviously, magic is an important part of the Harry Potter universe and a crucial component in the game as well, since the spells you cast with your wand are the only way you can defend against the evil creatures. As in the previous episodes, to unleash a spell, you have to move the mouse and perform a certain motion, which in turn unleashes the desired magic.
From a technical stand-point, the graphic engine has been slightly improved for the second part as well, featuring far more convincing special effects, high resolution textures and better level design to portray the magnificent Hogwarts as close to the movie as possible. The character animations are spot-on, as usual, although their bodies might react a bit strangely in certain situations, especially if they are hit by a spell.
Whether you are a fan or not, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is definitely a good game, although it becomes rather repetitive after a while and the events do not differ to much from the ones in the book and the movie. However, it is very intense and the action sequences keep you on edge with every occasion, especially toward the end.
