HOARD Demo

HOARD is a game in which the players take the role of a dragon and have a single purpose, to gather gold and take it back to their lair.

Very few games have tried to put players in the role of dragons, and it’s an interesting perspective, to say the least. In the case of HOARD the developers chose a very arcade approach with a simple goal; raise more gold than the rival dragons on the map. It might seem trivial, but there are too many variables in every map.

HOARD can also be played online, and the real challenge is when you face online opponents. The AI does a pretty decent job, but the humans are always faster and have a much better strategy when raiding cities.

Players are unleashed into a map, against rival dragons, and they start looting. At first, it’s quite easy to burn down cities and caravans, but the payout is also quite low. As the level progress and cities grow, they also get defenses.

The map begins to be populated with archers and knights. The archers are not all that difficult to defeat, but the Knights are almost always deadly. Also, various powers are available throughout the map.

Dragons get the ability to shoot fireballs, to move extremely fast, or to steal from the stash of other dragons. If you combine all of these elements together, you get a really frantic level, with insane gameplay and a race for time.

This is also the final piece. You can either win by getting a certain amount of gold or by having the biggest pile of gold when the time runs out. The best strategy is to gather pretty much everything that you find.

Of course, as you gather gold from the map you can upgrade the dragon so that it’s more powerful, can carry more gold before heading back, and has better armor.

Even if there aren’t many players still online, you can try HORDE against the AI and enjoy pillaging as a dragon.
