Groovy

Groovy is a 3D physics platformer that features an already standard sphere protagonist. This indie title follows the line of precision platformers that use physics to both annoy and challenge the players very close to their limits.

Groovy is not for the faint of ambition. If you’re the kind that sticks to a challenging game until the very end and enjoy having a hard time throughout the entire experience, then this game will be worth it. If on the other hand you value fast-paced gameplay that doesn’t punish human error, then this one might not be for you. Groovy requires a lot of patience and determination to get even through the first level.

At its core, Groovy is built to be tough, and it is exactly that intention that is appealing. A lot of people will enjoy pushing themselves over and over again until they pass yet another tough level. More so since the game is built using Unreal Engine 4 and looks nice.

The biggest challenge in Groovy will be to get used to the ball physics and subsequently to the controls. The ball moves a bit sluggish a lot of the time, and building the right kind of momentum is crucial in most cases.

In Groovy, the physics are very strict meaning that once you are in the air, there’s very little to nothing you can do to change your trajectory. If you take off at the right speed and in the right direction, you’ll be fine but jump a fraction of a second too late, and you might as well restart the level. How it all works for you depends entirely on how you perceive a good physics game. We think this one is good.

There are plenty of games that look and feel similar to Groovy. It’s not a new breed or a title that revolutionizes the genre. Or at least, that’s what we can see from the demo. It looks nice, but PCs with low hardware won’t be able to enjoy it. It could be very nice physics platformer once it’s complete and polished.
