iO

iO is a cleverly built platformer that offers a more than generous number of puzzling levels for you to solve. The game uses simple graphics, physics and several mechanics to create a rather unique and interesting experience.

At a first glance, iO stands out due to it’s overly-simplified graphics. Most of the time you will see that levels are made out of a few lines that zig-zag, bend or just float around, some rectangular parts that move by themselves and other pieces that you have to interact with.

Level design is meant to help you focus on the task at hand which is to guide a ball from the starting point to a portal that lies somewhere on the opposite side of the maze. In iO’s case, simplicity is the second best thing about it.

The first best thing about iO is the fact that it uses physics and uses them very well. A mechanic in the game allows you to rapidly increase or decrease the size of the ball, which, apart from enabling you to cross through tight spaces or roll over wide gaps, it also builds momentum and makes the ball to pick up speed or have a more powerful impact on movable objects.

In iO friction is also taken into consideration and it certainly has a huge role in solving lots of the puzzles. Moreover, each level is uniquely designed and rarely looks like one that you’ve already finished. This allows the game to constantly offer new challenges as you progress into the game and keeps things interesting.

On a closing note, iO offers plenty of reasons for you to play it. It’s clever, mildly addictive and can actually teach you a thing or two about how physics work.-
