GUTS Demo

Violence can sometimes be a problem in video games, at least when young children gain access to games they shouldn’t be able to play in the first place. However, it’s also a quintessential part of many titles, because it’s difficult to tell a good story sometimes if violence is not part of the picture. There are also games that rely on gore as their main selling point.

GUTS is a unique fighting game with a simple concept at its core: Dismemberment. Hence, your goal is to tear your enemy’s arms and legs off using a variety of flashy attacks and combos, all while the environment encourages you to come up with creative dismemberment ideas too. However, there’s still a fair amount of skill involved, especially if you try to compete with other human players.

To begin with, there’s a campaign mode that takes you through a rather interesting story, but its goal is to help you become familiar with most of the available fighters. Speaking of which, the characters are as ridiculous as the concept itself, because there are all sorts of weird-looking men and women that are part of the roster. Even more importantly, on the other hand, is the fact that they all have a unique fighting style.

After the campaign is over and you are confident enough in your ability to tear legs off, you can challenge your friends to a local multiplayer match, as well as go online and play with people from all over the world. Granted, the game is still in its infancy at this point, so don’t expect a huge audience, but then again this is merely a demo, and there are bound to be more players in the future.

In terms of graphics, GUTS is no less impressive, especially since there is always blood and guts flying around the screen. A lot of work has gone into the backgrounds as well, not to mention the nice animations and special effects added on top. However, it must be mentioned that all the flashes and post-processing effects can get in the way sometimes, because they make it difficult to see what’s happening with your character.

In the end, GUTS is definitely different from the rest of the fighting games out there, especially since it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Hence, it can be tons of fun if you can take a joke, and it actually requires a bit of skill in order to master the fighters.
