G-BALL Demo
A new sports game that takes place in zero-G, in an arena that's in Mars' low orbit. #Zero-G sport #Pass the balll #Team battle #Zero-G #Sport #Balls
G-Ball is supposed to be some kind of new sports game that takes place in orbit of Mars, but it’s difficult to catalog it as a game.
Imagining a new sport is always hard because humans are pretty at figuring out how to play stuff. That’s why pretty much all the sports that would make sense have been invented already. Getting a new sport off the ground, with rules that are not based on something that already exists, next to impossible. Making people care about a fresh new sport is not an easy thing to do.
That’s why in sci-fi movies that try to show us some new sport that’s being played in the future usually have either something that feels like an evolution of an existing activity, or something completely alien. G-Ball is neither. It uses a ball and hoops, but it’s also in zero G.
The developers from Genee Network say that the action is set in the orbit of Mars, in a not too distant future. First of all, since the game takes place in low orbit around a planet, there is no reason to have this happens around another planet. That’s a technicality, but it doesn’t make any sense.
Also, G-Ball is the name of the sport, and it’s actually a combination of basketball, football, and dodgeball. At least, this is the theory. The awkward physics, the terrible controls, and the overall quality of the game make this title impossible to play. Players run around like headless chickens all over the map, trying to hit the goal, which is really hard since the placement of the camera is just the worst.
The game is based on the Unity engine. It’s not the worst implementation of the engine, but we’ve seen a lot better. It might look OK from a distance, but no one will like how this game is designed.
G-Ball is a terrible experience, and it would be irresponsible to recommend this game to anyone. It’s a waste of time, and it feels like something that’s still in the Alpha stages of development. And, what’s worse, the developers even say that it’s made in conjunction with NASA.
