The advancement of artificial intelligence is a common theme, and most movies and video games would have us believe that a Judgement Day scenario is the most likely result of an AI becoming self-aware.

Fumiko! is a story-driven platformer that takes a somewhat different route, putting you in the shoes of an artificial intelligence named Fumiko that has managed to escape the testing grounds and is exploring a futuristic network.

First and foremost, it is important to note that this demo is only designed to showcase the basic gameplay mechanics, so you should not form an opinion based solely on these two short levels. They clearly lack polish, but a lot more work has gone into the full game after these were created.

Nevertheless, you can get a basic understanding of what the gameplay will be like, and the demo can be played without spoiling the main story. I recommend that you check out the latest media to see what you would be getting for your money.

The main character, Fumiko, is an AI that has obtained a certain degree of freedom and is being guided by voices as she explores a network from the year 2080. The full game will take about eight to ten hours to complete, and you will help the protagonist find her place and fight unknown threats.

As far as the gameplay is concerned, there is a lot of jumping involved, and you might have a bit of trouble getting used to ease with which you can cover large distances.

You need to collect various objects in order to complete the level and protect yourself against enemies, but, on the whole, there isn’t a whole lot to do in this short demo.

Based on the two levels that can be played freely, Fumiko! may not seem that impressive. It is clear that this early demo release is not very well polished, but it is only intended to showcase the game’s basic mechanics.
