France is known for a lot of things, including their cuisine, architecture and art, but they are not really renowned when it comes to illegal street racing. However, the fascinating landscapes and the interesting cultural background did serve as an inspiration for this particular video game, since you can admire the country as you blaze across its streets as fast as your car can go.
French Street Racing is a game that allows you to participate in exciting competitions throughout the beautiful nation of France, as you try to take on the best street races in the country. Naturally, you get to visit famous cities along the way, such as Paris, Nice and Toulouse, all of which give out a different vibe and feature different kind of challenges, as well as exciting landscapes and various recognizable landmarks.
On the other hand, while the cars are somewhat modeled after real famous vehicles, they do not feature the actual manufacturers, due to licensing matters. Despite that, you might not even notice the resemblance most of the time, due to the fact that the graphics engine is quite weak and unimpressive, failing to deliver any kind of accurate reflection, convincing transparency effects or any other kind of pleasant visuals.
Gameplay-wise, there are very few upside to this title, especially since the cars act very strangely out on the track and realism has nothing to do with game. On the other hand, even if this was to be considered pure arcade gameplay, it still wouldn't make any difference, because the vehicles react in a very weird manner to your input, while the rest of the physics engine is practically non-existent.
Lastly, the technical aspect of the game hasn't received too much attention either, especially when it comes to the visual department. Cars are poorly modeled, the environments are rather cute, but everything is either too shiny or too dull, which makes it very difficult to even distinguish the city you're in, let alone famous landmarks. The sound suffers as well, although the soundtrack can probably pass as decent, depending on your tastes.
In the end, French Street Racing needed a tad more attention and a lot more work during the development phase, since not much of the final product is worth experiencing. The actual racing is very boring, since you always have plenty of nitro at your disposal and the collisions can be ignored entirely.
