In Flamberge you get to control your small squad of elite and charismatic fighters through a set of challenging missions with different setups that are sure to test battle tactics.

Flamberge is focused on combat more than anything else. At a first glance, you might consider that the graphics were sacrificed a bit in favor of gameplay but after a few moments, looking into how everything blend together there’s a honest sense that things couldn’t have been done better.

The simplicity of it all allows for a very dynamic game that is captivating from the first second. In its few pixels, Flamberge compresses wonderful world design along with smooth animations that truly compliment combat mechanics.

In Flamberge, the previous phrase has never been truer. The game falls in the TBS category but while you’re planning your next moves, so is the AI which means you will have to anticipate every action your opponents are about to make. When you execute your turn, so does the AI and if you don’t really think things through, your spearman might charge into a tree and your archer could shoot some grass a few meters away.

When you make a turn, you select each fighter that is under your command and issue them orders. They can be moved to a vantage point to gain the upper hand, told to perform a manual or an automatic attack and you can even make use of some well thought out special abilities.

On a closing note, Flamberge is a TBS that packs quite the entertaining punch. It’s so easy to play that you can’t really stand to see you won a battle but lost a hero. You restart the mission and try again using a different strategy. That’s how addiction starts.
