Final Homecoming

First-person indie horror games are easy to come by lately and for a good reason. They’re fairly easy to create and in a lot of cases, the story doesn’t need to be all that good for it to scare the daylight out of you.

Final Homecoming is an indie title that sticks out thanks to its very good graphics and in-game atmosphere, and the story isn’t all that bad either.

The premise to Final Homecoming is that your wife and daughter have gone missing near the Mark Twain National Forest. With no clues for the cops to go on, it’s up to you to find them no matter what.

Final Homecoming starts with you finding the family car abandoned somewhere in a forest. With no signs of anyone close, you head into the forest with only a camera. See, the premise isn’t all that great, it’s been done over and over again but with the atmosphere of the game, tension builds up. After a short while it’s not about when or where you will find your family but a matter of how, and by that we mean in what state, alive and scared or dead and dismembered.

Right off the bat, Final Homecoming features some very good graphics for an indie game. There are a few things to iron out but overall, the look pulls you in. As far as the audio goes, it’s very close to being excellent and that’s due to some simple glitches when the ost seems to stop, glitch and then continue. However, like with the graphics, the audio is way above what you normally get from well-crafted indie horror games.

When it comes to the gameplay, it’s simple and effective. It’s played from a first-person perspective, you interact with some objects, pickup keys, open doors and try not to get caught by the monsters that lurk in the shadows.

To conclude, play Final Homecoming. It’s a good indie game that takes up roughly an hour to complete, and it’s a well-balanced experienced. It looks good, and it runs smooth, except for the framerate drop in chapter three.
