Fenix Rage

Fenix Rage is a fast-paced action platformer the likes of which you have rarely had the privilege of playing. It will test your quick thinking, reaction time, your patience and most of all, the durability of your keyboard or controller.

Fenix Rage delivers a very large number of levels which have increased difficulty as you advance through the game. And when we say increased difficulty we mean that you’ll do a lot of dying throughout all the sections of the game. At times you’ll feel as if a certain level can’t be finished, that you just do a little better each time when in fact it all comes down to making precise movements, at the right time, in the optimal sequence.

Each level in Fenix Rage has a maze-like structure and you have to jump and dash around to avoid static or moving foes to collect a cookie and then follow the evil Oktarus who always manages to elude you at the last second.

You’re probably asking yourself what’s the point of collecting cookies in a platformer that’s mostly sci-fi / fantasy inspired. Well, the answer to that points out just one of the many clever things about Fenix Rage.

Each cookie you collect brings you closer to unlocking one of the several recipes for actual cookies which you can bake at home. Since we made it clear that Fenix Rage is a difficult game to play, can you imagine how much Cookie Monster would rage and retry each level so he can get all the recipes?

Apart from the original reward system, Fenix Rage delivers good looking graphics, smooth animations, great mechanics which you get to discover yourself and last but not least, it’s a game that willy truly challenge you. The latter aspect is something that you have surely missed if you take your platformers seriously and with this one, you might get more than you expect, a lot more.

Probably the only thing missing from the game are a series of witty lines which Fenix might shout out when he’s in a jam or when he manages to pull off a flawless set of moves. For such a well thought out and crafted game, it’s almost disappointing to see that Fenix hasn’t been ‘gifted’ with a distinct personality.

To sum things up, Fenix Rage is a perfectly balanced game when it comes to the amount of effort you put in and the degree of satisfaction you get when you complete a level that seems impossible. It’s definitely worth playing.
