Dinosaurs lived millions of years ago, which means that humans never even came close to living alongside them. However, we can study their bones and graves to find out more about how they lived and behaved, although things are not always very clear. As such, T-Rex might have been a herbivore with feathers instead of scales, which doesn’t make it any less scary.
Fantasy Mosaics 10: Time Travel proposes you a journey back to when reptiles ruled the world, although you won’t be doing any kind of poaching. Instead, the game presents with a variety of grid-based mosaic puzzles, which challenge you to recognize patterns and pay attention to the numbers. It may not be as exciting as watching velociraptors from the bushes, but at least it gives your brain a workout.
The goal of the game is to complete pattern after pattern, using different colors to fill in the cells. Each row and column in the grid has a set of numbers associated with it, which tells you how many cells must be filled and in what order. As such, if only one number is displayed, you just have to fill them all in a row. Otherwise, if two or more are displayed, it signifies a break between the colored tiles.
To make things more interesting, mistakes are frowned upon quite severely, so you should avoid making too many of them. In fact, if you fill the wrong cell five times in a row, the round is lost and you have to take it from the top. On the other hand, you can make use of hints if you are unsure about how to continue, and there are a couple of other helpful tools you can employ to avoid losing.
Visually, the game looks quite sharp, although there’s usually not a lot to see. Other than the tiles and the colorful brushes, the occasional cutscene rewards you with a dinosaur or two. Most of the scenes are static and pretty rigid, on the other hand, so you need to be prepared for a bit of a disappointment in this regard. The soundtrack is nothing special either, but you’ll hopefully be too distracted by the puzzles to notice it.
All things considered, Fantasy Mosaics 10: Time Travel can put a lot of strain on your mind if you are a fan of puzzle games. However, the artwork and the actual dinosaur bits are not as exciting as advertised, so maybe you shouldn’t get your hopes too high.
