Envoy

Envoy is a generic upward-scrolling top-down shooter that’s built to be a perfect way in which you can waste some time without really feeling challenged. It’s a game for those who enjoy this type of shooter but don’t want to struggle with it.

The setting for Envoy is that which you’ve certainly come across tens of times, it’s been around for a while now. Moreover, it doesn’t seem to improve on anything, really. You have a ship, it can fire, you collect rockets and credits and keep shooting bad guys until you reach the big boss.

Playing Envoy, you don’t feel sucked into the action, it’s more along the lines of you have the chore of shooting stuff that comes in your direction. There’s nothing engaging about it in any way. The only reason you keep going is because you have to, the ship won’t stop.

In Envoy, like in a lot more games of this sort, you can purchase upgrades for your ship using credits you earn on each level. There are thrusters to buy, radars, armor plating, and of course, weapons. The latter is what might keep you going, to see what kind of cool weapons you can equip.

The choices aren’t all that exciting, and after you get to see them, the game reverts to being underwhelming in terms of action. In shooters, the good ones at least, you shouldn’t have a full two seconds to dodge enemy fire.

To end, Envoy is a game that’s best suited for those who don’t expect much from it. It’s a shooter that runs smooth, is easy to play, and it has rockets.
