Dungeons of Aledorn

A fair amount of complaining directed toward recent games has been tied to the fact that they are too easy to beat. Turn based strategy games and RPGs’ or hack and slash titles have gotten a lot of ‘constructive hate’ in this regard.

However, Dungeons of Aledorn is a game that aims to raise the bar when it comes to tactical turn-based games because it’s especially built to be tough, the kind of tough that’s justified and rewarding.

Dungeons of Aledorn is where RPG meets TTB to form a complex and well thought out game that revolves around challenging combat. ToA aims to provide players with a different take on combat realism and what it actually means.

One of the core features of the game is the injury distribution system. Basically this means that the developers have taken out the classic ‘hit them until their HP is 0’ and replaced it with a more complex way looking at things. In Dungeons of Aledorn, each character has a low number of hit points which if lost, trigger consequences that make fighting a lot more difficult. Moreover, stamina is also implemented and as a party member starts to lose it, he or she will be susceptible to much more devastating blows.

These features alone shift the difficulty level a great deal and really force the player to think well ahead before making a move.

Dungeons of Aledorn aims to be a conflux of features that have made the classics what they are. It promises to provide complex quests, plenty of choices when it comes to factions and the path of your champions. It’s also said to have exploration and character progression but from this demo you won’t feel any of that.

Just focus on the combat aspect of it all because the rest seems kind of flat. If you miss the classics, the visual or audio effects won’t seem like a problem although there are a few mishaps when looking at some details. Nonetheless, it is a prototype and improvement will certainly not be overlooked.

Dungeons of Aledorn strives to be a lot of things, and all of them wonderful. Even in this prototype stage it manages to create an authentic atmosphere that keeps you connected to the game.
