Dungeon Lords Collector's Edition Demo
A third-person action-RPG that takes you through a magical land filled with castles, dungeons and nefarious creatures. #Dungeon Lords #Action RPG #Role-playing game #Dungeon #Lords #Role
Real-time combat is a bit more difficult to implement into an RPG, due to the fact that the hero's skills and abilities have to actively influence the accuracy and the damage dealt by the weapon. However, many games have successfully worked around this issue and there are plenty of good examples out there, some of which even took it a step further.
Dungeon Lords took a stab at it as well, while also trying to provide the players with a dynamic and rich world filled with castles, temples, mystical forests and obviously dungeons. Unfortunately, the game does not manage to accomplish any of these things, nor does it make it easy for you to enjoy the experience, due to bugs and many other inconveniences that break up the gameplay.
You are allowed to choose from multiple races when creating a character, such as elf or human, as well as a small variety of classes that decide how you fare during combat and whether you prefer melee encounters, or you are more comfortable using spells. After that, the game welcomes you with a cutscene detailing the devious goals of an evil wizard, whose plan is to acquire tremendous power and use it for evil, while you, the nameless hero, are the only one who can stop him from achieving his goals.
Things don't get any better after the cliches stop pouring, because you can have a hard time getting acquainted with the weird camera controls and the broken combat system, which makes it very difficult to engage the enemies. There's very little to do when you are not fighting anyway, given that the game world is pretty much barren, with small and unimpressive towns, copy-pasted dungeons and a serious lack of detail when it comes to in-door environments.
Bugs are also part of the package and they can ruin the experience even further if you ambitiously try to march on despite all the odds. Hence, enemies can suddenly disappear when you are fighting them, save files become corrupted, as well as many other such inconveniences that beg you to stop playing. The graphics, although not at all bad, do not get any chance to shine, due to disturbingly low amount of objects scattered around the game world.
In the end, despite the Collector's Edition tag in the title, Dungeon Lords is not exactly something you would want to collect or even exchange currency for. The game world is empty and mostly unimpressive, the story is bad and lacking in depth, while the gameplay itself is annoying and unsatisfying. Above all else, though, the large number of bugs and errors make it almost impossible to enjoy yourself, even if you see nothing wrong with everything else.
