Dungeon Colony

Dungeon Colony is a nice little release that should feel appealing to those who miss a good 2D strategy game. It’s actually a RTS at its core that blends plenty of features from other genres which increase its difficulty level and make it more fun.

Somehow, without really even trying to, Dungeon Colony leaves you with the sense that you are in control of some weird but peaceful trolls who just want to chop down some trees, make a fire and sit down for some cooked rabbit. It’s your role to give the hardworking minions the orders needed to build the best defenses against greedy humans who want to exterminate you and take your gold.

In the game you will be able to control both the Dungeon Lord and the minions he summons to help out. He’s also a pretty tough guy who can take out a few humans if your defenses aren’t quite ready.

A really nice thing about Dungeon Colony is the sandbox feel to it. Your minions can dig just about anywhere in the mountain so you can create a dungeon in the shape you want. This allows you to design a lair that’s easy to defend and fill it with workbenches, beds for the minions and even a dining table among many others.

The crafting feature in Dungeon Colony is very well thought out. After you mine or gather the needed resources, you can view the blueprints for the item and to create it, the materials need to be placed in a certain pattern. It’s a small piece of gameplay but it contributes a great deal to the ensemble of used mechanics.

Also in the chapter of small touches that make the game good, is the fact that if you don’t pay your minions for the work they do, they become lazy. Micromanagement is a must in this game.

Dungeon Colony is full of little things like that and they really do add up to a wonderful experience.
