Violence is a normal thing in video games, sometimes regardless of genre. Brave heroes slay monsters in RPGs, and players slay other players in multiplayer shooters. Hence, every gamer is familiar with the notion of hit points, because it’s usually the most important thing in most of the games out there. However, one might wonder what it would be like if hit points didn’t matter at all.

Drop Out 0 is a multiplayer first-person shooter that aims to answer that question, since instead of providing each player with a weapon and a health bar they must keep an eye on, the whole point is to use the said weapons in order to push the enemies out of the arena. The idea sounds quite interesting in theory, but the gameplay mechanics need to be in tune with everything else.

As such, you get to choose your loadout and pick from a variety of weapons, all of which have different attack modes, but no actual damage or anything of the sort. Up to eight players can be in a match at the same time, and most of the time everyone is on their own. Thus, the winner is the  one with the most points at the end of the game, and the points are given whenever you manage to push a player out of the map.

The biggest flaw of the game is the fact that it’s too slow, which does not go well at all with the underlying principle. The weapons feel pretty powerless as well, because there’s no real sense of impact whenever you get hit or manage to hit another player. These can be fixed in later versions, on the other hand, at least as long as the developers truly want to improve their creation.

As for the graphics, they are about as simple as they can get under the circumstances, which is not really a problem as long as the gameplay keeps you busy. That may not always be the case, on the other hand, especially since everything moves quite slowly. There are also a couple of bugs you can run into every now and again.

In the end, you probably won’t have tons of fun with Drop Out 0, but then again it’s a pretty neat concept that might just work if you try it with some friends. It really needs faster gameplay mechanics, however, because it feels too slow and boring most of the time.
