4x4 Dream Race

There are plenty of reasons to develop a video game, whether you want entertain people, express your imagination, or just try to make as much money as possible. However, you must realize that the game in question is going to be played by human beings, who, despite all the evidence to the contrary, need a purpose in order to agree doing something for longer periods of time.

4x4 Dream Race assumes that the previous assumption is false and proceeds to try and convince you to keep playing for more than five minutes, despite the fact that there barely is anything attractive in the prospect of doing so. The controls are horrendous, the story is non-existent, there are no multiple game modes, the physics/graphics are weak and you can never win a race against the A.I.. What’s left to enjoy?

In essence, the main idea is that you get to drive a monster truck and tackle any kind of terrain, while also flying over various obstacles and trying to stick to a pretty narrow track ahead of you. However, the vehicle itself looks more like a toy, while the tracks are basically the same when it comes to the landscape, not to mention the fact that the monster truck is incredibly difficult to steer properly.

Just to see how much of a beating your ego can take, the A.I. is programmed to always stick to the track and be impossible to beat, even if you somehow manage to figure out how to approach the controls. Moreover, the competitors also get a head start at the beginning of the race, which means that they leave you in a cloud of dust while you are still waiting for the countdown to finish.

From a technical point of view, things are not much better either, especially when it comes to graphics and physics. The vehicle models are very low-poly and the environment seems to have been randomly created, with no originality involved at all and definitely no notion of taste. Your car sticks to the ground regardless of speed and the only things you can collide with are the buildings, since trees are ethereal.

It is very difficult to see how can 4x4 Dream Race appeal to anyone, especially since there are far better alternatives out there, some of which are free as well. Thus, the best that you can do is avoid the game at all costs, while keeping in mind that you are not missing out on anything.
